A New Chapter Begins: Changing our School Name But Not our Heart for Inclusion

This Spring we are excited to share an important milestone in the growth and vision of our school community. We are excited to be changing our school name, but not our Heart for inclusion and inclusive education. At the start of this year, the TJKB Board of Directors officially voted to rename Jeanette Okunyade Special Children’s School to:

Jeanette Okunyade Inclusive International School (JOI International School)

This name change reflects more than just a new title, it represents our continued commitment to expanding access, deepening inclusion, and raising the standard of education for all children.

Why the Change?

Over the past several years, our work has grown beyond what the original name could fully capture. While we remain deeply committed to supporting children with disabilities, we have also:

  • Expanded inclusive classroom models

  • Welcomed a broader range of learners

  • Strengthened academic programming

  • Increased our focus on global best practices in education

The new name, Inclusive International School, reflects our belief that every child, regardless of ability, deserves access to high-quality, inclusive education within a globally informed learning environment.

What This Means Going Forward

This transition does not change our mission- it strengthens it.

We will continue to:

  • Provide individualized support for children with diverse learning needs

  • Equip teachers with specialized training in inclusive education

  • Partner with families to ensure every child thrives

  • Advocate for inclusion within the wider community

At the same time, we are positioning the school to:

  • Serve a more diverse student body

  • Expand academic opportunities

  • Build international partnerships

  • Grow sustainably for the future

A Word of Gratitude

We are deeply grateful to our board members, staff, families, and supporters who have walked this journey with us. Your belief in this vision has made this next step possible.

Stay Connected

As we step into this new chapter, we look forward to sharing updates, stories, and opportunities to engage throughout the year.
