Empowering Young Women Through Scholarships in Ghana

Updated: Aug 23

In 2023 the directors of the J.O.S.C School came to the Tiina Jori Ko Ba Board with a request. Many of the staff at the school were young women. They were recent senior high school graduates. They hoped to attend college or university. Sadly, many women in our region were unable to attend school. Men took advantage of them by offering to pay for their future schooling in return for marriage or sexual favors.

Our directors were surprised by the numerous obstacles young women face in pursuing higher education. We wanted to ensure our staff didn't feel compelled to engage in relationships with men. Therefore, as a board, we began a mission to secure scholarships for young women in our area. After approximately a year of searching for support, we identified two donors who were eager to contribute for that year.

In December 2023, we received two donations totaling approximately GHC 25,200. These donations were specifically given to support young ladies from the Upper East region. The aim was to help them in their pursuit of college or university education. Since the receipt of these funds we have supported 3 deserving Scholarship Recipients.
